Mansoor Elahi has run finance for wholesalers, retailers and colleges since 1988. Now he does it for owner-managed businesses, a few days a month.

The story

Mansoor trained at KPMG and has spent his career inside the finance function: chief accountant, finance manager, controller. The habit that stuck: a file someone else can pick up and follow.

Career

  • Chief accountant, finance manager, consultant inside a CPA firm and, most recently, controller, since 1988
  • Closed the books of a national golf equipment wholesaler while leading its migration onto Oracle NetSuite
  • Ran cash flow and consolidation for a multi-store retailer as it expanded into Los Angeles and New Jersey
  • Held the accounting function together for a group of private colleges under a court-appointed receiver

The practice is deliberately small. Scope is written first. One person keeps the ledger, prepares the returns and gives the advice.

How the practice works

Four things you can hold us to.

If any of these stop, you will notice.

  1. The close runs on a calendar

    Dates are agreed in January. The reporting pack lands on the same working day every month.

  2. Scope is written down first

    Deliverables, deadlines and fee are in the engagement letter before work starts. Changes are agreed in writing.

  3. One person is accountable

    The person who scoped the work does it. No account manager in between.

  4. Filings are met early

    Deadlines are planned back from, not run at. A prior year filed wrong gets amended.
