Accessibility

This site should work for everyone.

It is built to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, and checked with a keyboard and automated accessibility tools before each change goes live.

What that means in practice

  • Every page has one heading structure, a skip link to the main content, and visible focus outlines for keyboard use.
  • Text and background colours meet the WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratio, including small text and labels.
  • Every image has a text alternative. Decorative rules and marks are hidden from screen readers.
  • The site works without a mouse. Menus open and close with the keyboard and with Escape, and the mobile menu keeps focus inside it while open.
  • Motion is limited to short transitions, and is switched off when a visitor's system asks for reduced motion.
  • Text can be enlarged to 200% in the browser without losing content or function. Pages reflow to a single column on narrow screens.
  • Documents offered for download are also provided as web pages with the same content.
